Finally there! :) my flight, dorm, first impressions...

What a great way to start my journey.. with an upgrade :) Yep, I was so lucky that I got upgraded by British Airways and able to fly in business class with a lot of leg space and comfort:) And during my 5 hour layover at London Heathrow I was able to relax in their Lounge with free food, drinks and wifi.
The flight from London to Seoul was about 11 hours long and after meeting the guy from the pick-up service it turned out, it takes another 1,5 hours to get to my dorm from the airport. I was so tired and exhausted haha and I directly met a girl and a guy from France that were also exchange students and waiting for the pick-up service. As we later got to know, the girl actually turned out to be my roommate during my stay here. Which brings me to my dorm and room. I live at the Koart Ville residence, which is approx. 20 mins away from my university.

It's an 8-story building and I live on the fourth floor. The Koreans are very superstitious about the number four, because in their language it is a homonym for death, that's why in the elevator of our dorm our floor has an "F" on the button for "Four" instead of the actual number haha.. weird. 1,2,3,F,5,6,7,8 :D. Anyways.. moving on to my room. It's not as bad as I heard before.

My bed is the one on the right (and btw, the washer
is a washer and dryer together and of course only in
Korean, without any other instructions hahah)

My working space

Sadly, the room wasn't very clean and especially the bathroom was nasty and dirty :/ Also, they didn't give us any toilet paper haha So after unpacking the first thing we did was go for a stroll and check out the area around our dorm and buy some toilet paper and water on the way.

Do you see the people on the right side? :D These people were staring
at me and my roommate like crazy and then started smiling
and waving at us haha

But after two hours and successfully finding what we were looking for, we went back to the dorm cause we were just too excited and thought that we could still continue exploring the city tomorrow and I actually fell asleep during the afternoon and slept all the way into the night. Of course I woke up again and was absolutely not able to fall back asleep haha I was really scared that I might have to battle a jet lag this time, because I already didn't have one when going to San Francisco and I heard that a lot of people might not have any problems with jet lags flying in one direction but then have to deal with a jet lag when flying in the other direction. But, I can gladly announce, that this time around I still have no jet lag :) Yay!

So today was my actual real first day here and I packed it with things I wanted to do and see haha And my roommate was on board when she heard about my plans. So after getting ready and having breakfast, we left to find the closest subway station to our dorm. And when I got onto my first subway here I almost puked.. and yes it was really that bad haha The subway was smelling sooooo bad.. i can't even explain the smell :/.. that definitely requires some getting used to. But our first tour was to try and find the way to our university because tomorrow is the introduction day for us exchange students and we really didn't wanna get lost haha

Old part of my university (for the ones who don't know.. my university is over 600 years old):

When checking out the uni, we also met a really nice Finnish girl and all together headed off to the biggest shopping district here in Seoul --> Myeong Dong

Every third store is a skincare or beauty store :D

Found this great store called "Artbox" when I was searching for some letter paper to write my grandma. So many weird, cute and funny things in one place :D :

Yep, barbie hair color haha

We also met these guys :D :

After Myeong Dong we also went to the famous Gyeongbokgung palace, but I'm going to write about that tomorrow because today was such an exhausting day and I'm so tired :D and Gyeongbokgung is worth having its own post.. So impressive and gorgeous. But more about that tomorrow. ;)

One thing is definitely clear.. I'm having a great time in this wonderful city.
